When the going gets tough, the tough get going. As an organization that’s over a 100 years old, this adage is what defines us. In our journey spanning over a century, we have faced some unprecedented challenges and upheavals. But these are also events that honed our vision and propelled us to adapt quickly to offer timely, customer-centric solutions.
Our journey began as a humble machine repair shop in Helsinki in the year 1910. This was followed soon after by the First World War in 1914. The war taught our founders their first lesson in adaptability. KONE went on to produce 10 million brass shells and casings for the Russian army (at the time Finland was part of the Russian empire).
By the end of the war, KONE was manufacturing elevator components. Business began to gradually pick up, when The Great Depression enveloped the world like a thick blanket, in 1930. When elevator sales began to drop drastically, KONE began to manufacture industrial cranes to make ends meet. This was followed a few years later by the Second World War when KONE once again produced ammunition for Finland.
It was only a few years after the war, when relative peace prevailed, that KONE as an organization reinvented itself and shifted focus to offering vertical mobility solutions. Our long history has left behind a rich legacy that continues to define the way we work. It has taught us resilience, adaptability, and above all, safety. It has taught us to instinctively understand customer needs based to changing market and economic scenarios. It is the reason why, KONE has been one of the early adapters of technology and frontrunners in offering customers innovative solutions. It is also the reason why, we have thinking of your safety even as the world has been combating the pandemic. Now, as the world at large and India in particular, is taking baby steps in getting back some semblance of normalcy, we are ready with solutions for what we believe will aid you to ease into the ‘new normal’.
We understand that as cities and offices begin to open, the use of public spaces such as metro stations, shopping malls, and even offices, will change. With social distancing becoming the norm, it is of critical importance the people are able to maintain distances even in shared spaces. Spurred by KONE’s technical expertise and innovative mind-set, we have created solutions that will encourage physical distancing while enabling safety.

Maintaining safe distance

It is absolutely critical that you maintain the requisite social distance even within an elevator cabin. To build this as consistent safety practice, we have designed physical distancing elevator floor stickers which clearly indicate where you need to stand. We also have elevator full load limit adjustment censors which ensure less crowding inside the elevator.
